This is one of the most searched topics on google in 2020, can I migrate an existing tabular model to Power BI? and the answer is absolute YES

The recent announcement of the Power BI ReadWrite XMLA endpoint feature (currently in public preview and not generally available yet) opens up many interesting use cases, one of which is migrating an existing analysis service models to Power BI.

So now it's quite clear that we can migrate an existing model to Power BI, but you may have a few questions like, why we have to migrate to Power BI and what value does it bring to me as an organization?

so let's see what benefits it will bring

  • As per Microsoft, it’s so clear that Power BI Premium is the focus of enterprise BI and the primary target for future investments. In time, Power BI Premium will provide a superset of the capabilities when compared to Azure Analysis Services.
  • If your organization is already using a Power BI premium then you can save big by cutting the cost to maintain Azure Analysis Services or an SQL Server Analysis Service, this is a huge plus to the organizations.
  • Power BI Premium is catching up with all the features available in Analysis Services very rapidly and as per Microsoft, these features will soon be matched or exceeded in Power BI Premium.
