Power BI — Create an attractive Page Navigation in less than a minute
Microsoft release updates to Power BI Desktop regularly to include new features. Oftentimes, these added features are based on customer feedback and the latest trends in the market. In this article, I will walk you through the Page Navigation feature that was added recently.
If you are a Power BI developer you must be knowing how difficult it was to create and maintain the page navigation in Power BI Desktop, we have to set up bookmarks and then create them for all the pages, and update them whenever there is a new page or delete the existing page(reordering is a big task). It was a cumbersome task to create and maintain page navigation in Power BI Desktop.
But not anymore with the latest Page Navigation option, you can create beautiful page navigation ( horizontal or vertical) in less than a minute. Let's jump onto it and see how we can create it
Open Power BI Desktop → Click on Insert Tab → Click on Buttons → Click on Navigation → Page Navigator

you see a button with the page name (as shown in the below picture) added to the report page

Now start adding more pages to the report and see what happens, I added 7 more pages to the report, and BOOM the page navigation added 7 more buttons with the page names

Now let’s make the navigation a little attractive
→ Select the Page navigation and open the Format Navigator pane
→ We have a few options for the Shapes, select the shape that suits your dashboard
→ Select other format settings ( like border color, Fill color, default color..etc)

Also, change the Grid Layout that suits your dashboard

Now add visuals to your pages and give them meaningful names

It's not done yet, go to the second page ( any other page) and you see the navigation is missing

Now go to the First Page and copy the Page Navigation and paste it on all other pages.

The Page navigation is ready and by default, the navigator highlights the button that you are currently viewing.
If you don't like the side navigation then change the layout to Horizontal, BOOM

I hope you enjoyed reading this article, see you in my next article until then stay safe and have a happy holiday.
